Part of a Virginia Network to Support School Readiness

Smart Beginnings Greater Prince William (SBGPW) is a public-private partnership aimed at increasing kindergarten readiness in the cities of Manassas, Manassas Park, and Prince William County, Virginia. Our leadership represents members of the business, education, health, and social services sectors, working together to deliver efficiencies to bring greater opportunity to our area's most vulnerable - our children, ages 0–5.

As part of a statewide network of Smart Beginnings, SBGPW serves with assistance and guidance from Virginia Early Childhood Foundation (VECF). This approach allows local efforts to be individualized, while working in harmony with other communities to achieve results throughout Virginia.

Our mission:

SBGPW is committed to the school readiness of young children.  We help deliver conditions for a strong, healthy start for young children and their families. SBGPW serves as the public-private connector, convening the parts of a school readiness network. SBGPW improves services by promoting high quality common standards and evidenced-based practices. SBGPW creates efficiencies and leverages funding to ensure the community's resources are targeted to children with greatest need.
SBGPW will focus on five areas through fiscal year 2020:
  1. Building leadership capacity to guide early childhood systems development,
  2. Increasing will and capacity to use data-driven decision making,
  3. Improving access or availability to evidenced-informed practices that support healthy births and child development,
  4. Increasing availability and access to high-quality early learning, and
  5. Establishing pathways for transition from home to child care, to preschool, to elementary school.
